Employment
May 2005 – Dec 2005Positive Consulting LtdSouthampton

Positive Consulting provides a Driver Licence Checking service that checks and monitors the status of staff driver’s licences for corporate customers.

I was hired as a consultant to evaluate the feasibility of this service becoming an automated online system. Importing XML data supplied by the DVLA, manipulating and filtering the data and then delivering it to the clients via web and email.

detailed system plan was produced covering the importing of data, security and logon systems, information delivery, and also a number of extra features that would make the service much more appealing to large corporate customers.

May 2004 – May 2005Keytools LtdSouthampton

The companies web presence was completely re-hauled, a number of systems were created including: Database driven content, Integrated E-Commerce system, Text Only Converter, Advanced Site Search, Database Management Tools, SafetyNet System and Content Management Tools.

In this role I scripted all of the backend systems and created Style Sheets and image libraries from our initial design work-ups. The system is very robust and the technology seamless; a majority of maintenance tasks can be done by unskilled staff through a control panel. I also created the companies Intranet that details live order information from the SAP accounting database. A number of internal tools were created including a quick credit card verification script.

The final phase of my work at Keytools involved the recruiting, training and transfer of skill to my replacement. The most recent evolution of the site was a product of giving the new designer as mush hands on experience and freedom as possible whilst demonstration the benefits and inner-workings of advanced web technologies.

Interests
  • Photography

I have a keen eye for good image composition and enjoy capturing emotional, journalistic and abstract photographs.  Working in a mixed media environment there was always a need to for imagery to work with.  What started as a necessity, photographing products and people, quickly became a passion.  I maintain an Image of the Day page at www.bamroberts.com/pod/

  • Digital Art

For as long as I can remember I have enjoyed and been inspired by digital imagery. I have a large collection of graphic design books and enjoy both the creation of my own work and the insight from others. I am part of a number of web communities that exchange and contribute ideas, techniques and criticisms.

  • Lighting

My initial introduction to mixed media was through stage lighting; I spent a lot of my adolescence doing voluntary lighting work for small and medium sized theatre productions.  The creative side of me strongly believes that all art is created through the manipulation of light.

  • Travelling

I spent four months travelling Eastern Europe in May 2003. I had always wanted to travel but felt a need to avoid common gap-year destinations and explore places that were less conventional destinations and had more ‘journalistic’ opportunities. The countries I visited include: Bosnia, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia and Albania. In the four months I was travelling I took 5000 Photos. I would like the opportunity to travel again but on much shorter expeditions.
